While wild horses DO live there (Around Silver Lake, & on the Yakima & Colville Reservations), the BLM doesn't manage them. Our long term commitment ...Hello Mary Ann Crayton! Our long term commitment continues to be supporting our two herds as they (and we) continue living well to the end of our days. This on going commitment means a substantial amount of our limited earnings is channelled into feed costs, which are much higher during the long winter - and also the physical labours involved with distributing feed and maintaining fencing. We are just two simple people, but we remain capable of carrying on in this way and are very thankful for this!Lynne Gerardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16107340619393934366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6572142164579536708.post-88614465903938533072024-02-26T14:04:37.846-05:002024-02-26T14:04:37.846-05:00Good proof-reading, Rocky!

I have been catching up on your videos. Of ...Hi,

I have been catching up on your videos. Of course the horses are the stars of the show. I did not realize how beautifully they move along their way and how quickly they respond to any alerts! The colors in the Mares of Autumn 2017 are fantastic! They have a lot of variability in their coloration as individuals. Also the stallion chasing the birds is so well done! He really thinks about it it for a while before heading out to do his "clearances." Are the mares in the next field perhaps his chosen audience? A great way to make your own fun and stay in shape. My parents had two Gordon Setters who to my dismay had the same instincts to keep the birds in the air. Not sure they are supposed to do that! Have some dignity, Gordons! Meanwhile, many more videos to see here and I thank you. I have been reading about poison legumes out there such as Rattlebean, which I just discovered growing in a dune environment in FL. Rattlebean is native to the US. Apparently their leaves and flowers have such a foul bitter taste that the cattle on those pastures when the plants are green soon learn to avoid them. However, the uninitiated, placed on the land after the season is over and the dried "beans" are still on the plant can eat them and die rather quickly! And here's an interesting statistic to ponder: Of the millions of birds species we have lost since the 1970's, over 80% of them are migrating birds. Habitat is so important. Best wishes for the New Year to you and yours.
